Through his book, ''Country Inns and Back Roads'', Simpson introduced the traveling public to this group of properties scattered throughout the U.S. and Canada. Today, this association of independent innkeepers started by Simpson is known as Select Registry. Originally based in Berkshire, New England, the organization is now headquartered Marshall, Michigan. Select Registry has a diverse membership which includes bed and breakfasts, urban inns, boutique hotels and small resorts. Members are required to pay annual dues, as well as pass quality assurance inspections every few years. Keith Kehlbeck serves as the executive director of the association, with oversight from a Board of Directors made up of member innkeepers and inn owners.
